How to Register for JEE Main 2027

JEE Main 2027 Exam Dates
JEE Main 2027 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in two sessions. Session 1 is expected to open for registration in October-November 2026, with the exam held in January 2027 and results by February 2027. Session 2 registration is expected to open in late January 2027, with the exam in April 2027 and results by April 2027. These dates are tentative, based on previous years’ patterns, and will be confirmed once NTA releases the official notification.
Eligibility Criteria
There is no upper age limit for JEE Main 2027. Candidates must have passed, or be appearing in, their Class 12 (10+2) examination in 2025, 2026, or 2027 from a recognized board, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates with a 3-year diploma from an AICTE-recognized institution, or an equivalent foreign qualification, are also eligible for B.Tech admission through JEE Main.
Exam Pattern
Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) has 75 questions across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, 25 per subject (20 MCQs and 5 numerical-value questions), for 300 marks total. It is a 3-hour computer-based test, with +4 marks for each correct answer and -1 for each incorrect MCQ. Papers 2A and 2B (B.Arch/B.Planning) run 3 to 3.5 hours for 400 marks, combining Mathematics, an Aptitude Test, and Drawing or Planning-based questions.

The syllabus follows the NCERT Class 11 and 12 curriculum for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. NTA will publish the detailed, chapter-wise JEE Main 2027 syllabus with the official notification; until then, the previous years’ syllabus is a reliable guide, since it changes only slightly year to year.
JEE Main Qualifying Cutoff Trends
The qualifying cutoff is the minimum percentile a candidate needs to be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced (for General candidates, roughly the top 2.5 lakh rank). Counselling: JoSAA Seat Allocation
Admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other centrally-funded technical institutes (GFTIs) after JEE Main (and JEE Advanced for IITs) happens through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Around 138 institutes and over 67,000 seats are covered under JoSAA. Candidates register on the JoSAA portal, fill and lock their choices of institute and branch in order of preference, and are allotted seats over multiple rounds based on their rank, category, and the state-of-eligibility quota (50% Home State, 50% All-India for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs). Each round requires fee payment and document verification within the given deadline to confirm the seat, and seats left vacant after JoSAA rounds are filled through CSAB special rounds.
How to Prepare
Start with NCERT textbooks to build core concepts, then move to previous years’ JEE Main papers and full-length mock tests to build speed and accuracy. Weight your preparation evenly across all three subjects, since each carries the same marks, and use regular practice tests to track and close weak areas.
