The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) are reportedly finalising a major overhaul of the CUET UG exam pattern from 2027, according to multiple exam-news reports citing a meeting chaired by the Education Secretary with senior NTA and UGC officials.
The centerpiece proposal is a “one student, one day” model — each candidate would sit all their chosen-subject papers in a single day, replacing the current exam window that runs across roughly 12 to 15 days. Reports also suggest cutting paper duration from 60 minutes to 40–45 minutes, trimming questions per subject from 50 to 35–40, and capping the maximum subjects a student can choose at 4 (down from 5 of the 37 subjects currently offered).
There is no official notification yet from UGC or NTA — guidelines are still being drafted, so these changes remain proposals, not confirmed rules. Students should continue preparing for CUET UG 2027 on the current pattern until NTA releases the official Information Bulletin, expected in the coming months.
